We only had time for the eastern half last year.  What to do?  Why, start in Columbia, head west and make friends one bar at a time, of course!  It's a nice ride and even with some rain, it was a great weekend.

Photos posted of my last-minute trip to Chi-Town for the Iowa/NIU game.  I wasn't planning on going, and had full intentions of going on the Granny Diggler ride quite near my home.  Then came an email from a fellow Hawkeye Report board member with a FREE game ticket, and I couldn't resist, having spent the entire morning staring out my office window at Hawkeye-flag-waving vehicles streaming up 1st Avenue in Coralville.  My very real regret is not seeing Brian, Marey, Mel, Amy, and everyone else on the bike ride, but the lure of the possible once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the Hawks play at Soldier Field was too much for me to pass up.

I arrived in downtown Chicago at 10:30 Friday evening and hooked up with Wes, Austin, and their crew.  Being the only sober one of the bunch, I did my best(unsuccessfully) to catch up.  A great weekend of football and depravity was had by one and all, and I appreciate the wonderful hospitality of my gracious hosts, who made a spot for me in their hotel rooms downtown.  Fun with old friends, and meeting some great new friends was a definite bonus.

Over Labor Day weekend, my dad and I are going to ride from Dodgeville to Whitewater and back, with overnights both ways in Madison.  I hear there is beer to be had along the way, but we'll be the judge of that.  Check out the Military Ridge Trail and the Glacial Drumlin Trail, that's our route.  There may be some pictures to follow, or maybe just as likely a headline in the Madison paper about some loutish Hawkeye fans disrespecting Camp Randall Stadium on the first football Saturday of the season.

Once I'm done individually deleting the 2,300+ spam entries in our Guestbook, I am going to quit my job, load my Jeep with guns & ammo, and hunt down every asshole, pimple-faced spammer who has flooded our Guestbook.  In the immortal words of Samuel L .Jackson from my favorite movie... "... The photos are posted.  We drank a lot of beer.  Others lived in fear of fizzlers.  Losers.  Kung Fu Tap & Taco rules.  I'm going back to bed.

I know the people in O-Town will yawn at this entry, since I've only been talking about this idea for 2 years.  I'd like to hear what people have to say about riding this trail.  The website and related literature looks all rosy, but I'd like some local knowledge or insider perspective.  Sure there may be plenty of opportune fizzlers stops, but how close is the trail really to the casino in Booneville, i.e., how soon can I be at a craps table once I roll into town?

Granny Diggler's Tour De Sutliff

Let me be the first to say that EVERYONE should try to make this ride, if possible.  Brian and Marey will be there, so lets try to have a good Diehard & Friends showing!  It is Saturday, Sept 2, which is the Saturday of Labor Day weekend.  The ride is out of Lisbon, Iowa, which is just East of Cedar Rapids.  Yes, close to me, and a distance for many, but it looks to be a great time!

This is my first ever blog entry.  Am I doing it right?  After looking at the 2006 photos I once again realize the fun I missed.  Maybe next year I will be self employed and not so fat and lazy.  Great seeing each of you.  I have smiled numerous times in my day to day life just thinking of some of the crazy shit I saw in just one day.  Each of you really are one of a kind and I miss you THHHHIIIIIISSSSS much!
